It’s funny how when you start your decorating process, you think you know exactly what you want (or at least I did!) And then you start actually decorating and things don’t necessarily turn out how you expect. I started out wanting our home to be all white, but when we started to fill our space with only white, I changed my mind. It felt too cold and boring. I want to keep a majority of our furniture in light, neutral colors and add some pops of bright colors as well. We decided on the base colors white, tan and light grey and bought this white cowhide rug but then returned it and got this one. I’m constantly sourcing inspiration on Pinterest (images above here, here and here) and am also getting help from my friend and local interior designer, Caitlin (her blog is Sacramento Street). We have some upcoming DIY projects and will be showing you guys the process of our home decorating journey!

I am excited to follow along. I think we are going to be relocating on my husbands company’s terms, so I won’t be able to decorate. Doing it vicariously is always fun! xo
Love the frames and the bookshelves. Love Caitlin’s blog as well!
I think it’s smart to keep the bones of the room neutral. I have changed my living room 3 times since moving into our apartment a year ago! I’m able to keep up with my indecisiveness because of the neutral furniture pieces.

so much fun to decorate but just don’t rush it! its taken me years to decorate and i feel like its an ever evolving project. enjoy! x
I definitely agree about keeping things neutral but adding splashes of color! All white is a good idea in theory, but I think that as time wore on it would be a bit dull! Looks like you are heading in the right direction.

I’m seriously going through the same thing right now haha. I wanted all white but then I didn’t like how blank everything looked so I’ve been trying to add pops of color here and there. Can’t wait to see the DIY’s you have planned!
I’ve been going through a similar thing with our home! We didn’t move, but we got new couches and now all I want to do is redecorate! I feel like the minute I think I have it figured out, I change my mind :) Can’t wait to see the details of your new place, lady!

I love decorating with color! I think it makes a space much more fun and cozy
I love how you stuck with light colors and bright accents. We tend to stick to a darker palate and neutrals.

House decorating can be a long process. It’s totally okay to change your mind a few times. It will be prefect when you get done! : )

I agree! i thought I knew what I wanted but now going through the process it’s turning out quiet differently from what I thought it would. I love pops of color too… My base color is grey so i’m filling in with lots of purple, orange and teal…

I think cowhide rugs are abhorrent and shameful. Walking on a dead animal is beyond tacky.
Definitely had that same plan of attack when decorating my first apartment. Color is a scary thing for me. I’ve had my eye on that book for my coffee table (neutral cover yay). Hope everything goes well!!
I love pinterest for inspiration! I just hope my boyfriend is as open as Thomas is when it comes to home decor!

LOVE the pink and navy pillows! great taste:)
I know exactly what you mean! We’ve just bought a house and I’m about to go through the same process…
That’s so funny you say that about the all white. When I moved to NYC, I wanted to do my room in all white. Bought a white comforter from West Elm, but ended up returning it for a gray one at Anthro. Isn’t it funny how things look so differently in your head?! :)
Love the Furbish pillows with the stripes, so chic!
