A few weeks ago when Thomas’ parents were in town, we decided to take a day trip to Beaufort, SC. Beaufort is not too far from Palmetto Bluff (which we’ve visited in the past) and Hilton Head Island, about 90 minutes drive from Charleston. Thomas’ mom loves photography and we all wanted to check out somewhere new, so we were all excited to head out for a day of exploring. We left in the morning, a little bit earlier than we had originally planned so that we could make a pit stop…

On the way down to Beaufort we made a slight detour to stop at Angel Oak on Johns Island. We’d been wanting to see this massive and very old (expected to be 400-500 years old) oak tree since first visiting Charleston, but hadn’t yet found ourselves in that neck of the woods. It’s definitely a site to see and incredible that it’s endured all these years.

Much like Charleston, Beaufort is surrounded by water. Making for pretty marsh views from almost everywhere. The main street, Bay, sits on a bluff overlooking the river. There are a few restaurants along the stretch that make a lovely spot to grab a table and enjoy a meal outside. We ended up eating lunch at Plums, where Thomas and his dad got the Soft Shell Crab sandwich, which was in season at that time. We also grabbed some coffees and chai lattes at Common Ground when we first arrived before we started walking around.

While in Beaufort, we walked around the Old Point neighborhood. There were some very beautiful historic houses along Live Oak lined streets. It was the perfect temperature for stroll, and luckily not humid unlike our current weather. We actually spent a large portion of our time in this neighborhood because we were loving shooting all of the Spanish moss lined streets and homes.

There’s such a wide variety of plants and trees in the Lowcountry that we are constantly surprised by new things blooming. It seems like every week there’s something new, Thomas said that he just saw the magnolia trees starting to bloom in our neighborhood and we are loving all of the confederate jasmine that’s so incredibly fragrant and just about everywhere right now (including our front yard!).

This was our favorite stretch of homes in Beaufort, which color would you pick? The yellow, the blue or the pink? I know what I would pick…
