One of my goals for this year is to buy less and wear more of what I already have. Along with that, I want to buy more with a purpose and only commit to items I know I’ll wear over and over again. I know my style very well, but I want to fine tune it so that my closet isn’t cluttered and filled with things I don’t need or wear. I’m in the process of cleaning out my clothes and it feels so good to narrow it down to pieces that I really love. I would describe myself as a neat freak and I dislike have too much “stuff”, which is funny because I have a lot of “stuff”. And in a small space, it can make for an overwhelming situation. A term I heard this past holiday season from a family friend that I thought was hilarious was “Champagne Problems”. Described as those frivolous problems that aren’t really serious “problems”. Well, this is a champagne problem. Too much stuff! I thought I would give myself some guidelines to implement this year whenever I’m in the shopping/decision process of buying something. So lets get excited again about the items we already have in our closets and challenge ourselves to be creative. Here we go!
Styles: I know which styles look best on my body and the ones I feel comfortable in. Every time I stray and try a new trend, I never end up wearing it again because it’s not “me”.
Paring: Can I think of at least five+ other items in my closet I can wear and style with it? If not, leave it behind.
Inventory: Make note of what I already have. Do I really need another striped shirt? Or cream sweater? Just because it looks so comfy and soft doesn’t mean I need it. Until mine rips or falls apart, walk out of the store. PUT DOWN THE SWEATER.
New In/ Old Out: With each new piece I bring into my closet, an old item must go. I’m hoping this will help it from getting unorganized and out of control again.
To start the narrowing down process, I’ve made a list of my 10 to fashion and beauty items as the “core” of my wardrobe and beauty bag. All of the fashion pieces I currently own (not in these exact styles/brands) and are definitely in my GMG must-haves list. My beauty picks are the items that I can’t live without and make up a majority of my skin/makeup/hair routine.
