One of the things I love most about this time of year is reminiscing about favorite childhood memories and holiday traditions. My sister and I are lucky to have fond memories of baking and decorating our favorite holiday cookies, making gingerbread houses, and drinking hot cocoa with peppermint sticks while opening gifts Christmas morning every year. She’s been in town visiting us for a few days, so we decided to bring back some of those past times. The rain and gloomy weather outside really set the mood for a day indoors. We wore comfy sweaters, leggings and socks all day, and made a cozy place by our Christmas tree to enjoy the treats we made. I layered this Old Navy sweater under this cardigan paired with these comfy white jeans– I just had to be extra careful with the frosting!

My sister and I were having brunch with my girlfriend on Sunday morning when we walked passed William Sonoma and saw the abundance of adorable baked goods and sweet treats. The three of us packed our basket full of sprinkles, marshmallows, cookie mix, candy canes, hot cocoa and the cutest little gingerbread men. We opted for the box of cookie mix and pre-made frosting since we were more excited about the decorating and eating part over the actually baking portion.

We baked up a storm of sugar and gingerbread cookies in all the festive shapes and sizes and made peppermint hot chocolate on the side. Thomas and I made the conscious effort to try and start some of our own traditions this year- whether that’s having Thanksgiving at our place, dinner parties on Sunday night or holiday cookie decorating with friends. Our families have created so many amazing traditions and it’s fun to be able to create our own.

By the end of the day we had eaten so many sweets that all we could do was snuggle on our pile of pillows and blankets and enjoy another favorite childhood memory – watching classic holiday movies! We turned on some of the greats like White Christmas, Miracle of 34th St, Elf and The Holiday.
