We flew from London to Venice last Monday and were giddy with excitement the minute we started to land over the Venetian Lagoon. We quickly got off the plane, hopped into our car to Piazzale Roma where a water taxi was waiting to take us to our hotel. We rode out onto The Grand Canal until we pulled up to our home for the next few days, The Bauer Venice. We quickly changed out of our travel clothes and into dresses and skirts for the warm weather that Venice was treating us with.

Vacation has started and bellinis were in order looking out over The Grand Canal from the rooftop terrace of our hotel. The wind flipped through our hair, blowing up our dresses, but we didn’t mind because we were in VENICE! We made the short walk over the Piazza San Marco where we pulled up a seat at the iconic cafe, Caffe Florian. We ordered extra large Coppa Caffe Florian (a decadent combination of gelato, tiramisu coffee, chocolate sauce, coffee liqueur and whipped cream) with a side of espressos for a midday jolt.

Linked arm in arm, Rose and I quickly made plans to head over the water to Giudecca Island. We called over another water taxi to take us the short distance over into the sunshine (and much less windy) spot just across The Grand Canal. It was much quieter and filled with very few tourists, which is a nice contrast to Venice. We walked along the water with our men.

We had heard that there was a beautiful garden at the sister hotel to ours on Giudecca Island. As one who never passes up a pretty garden nearby, we decided to stop by and check it out. We walked into a lush landscape filled with wildflowers, sun bathing spots and the cutest Mr. Roger (the local bunny). For a moment we forgot where we were (back in London?) until we walked back out to the canals. I love when a small spot can take you somewhere completely different than where you are.

Before our trip started, Rose and I had an unspoken agreement that we were both pretty much living in dresses and skirts the whole time. Aside from a little bit of rain while we were in Tuscany, we had the best luck with weather. I bought this red shirtdress from Anthropologie right before I left (it’s currently out of stock) but found a few similar options here and here. I also found more shirt dresses, always a favorite style of mine, that I love here, here, here and here (all under $160). Rose wore this gorgeous white ASOS skirt that’s under $65 paired with this darling striped jacket.

After our boat ride back to Venice, we enjoyed another round of bellinis on our terrace before heading out to dinner at Ristorante da Ivo, a recommendation from friends before left. We ordered an abundance of pasta and seafood and loved seeing the fishermen come in from the canals mid meal to deliver more fresh fish. Definitely add it to your list if you’re making a trip to Venice soon, just make sure to make a reservation ahead of time!
