On a rainy Sunday afternoon, I decided it was time to get out of the house and go do something. The night before at dinner, my girlfriend had reminded me of the ‘Bouquet to Art’ exhibit at the de Young Museum and I quickly realized that it was the last day of the show. So Thomas and I printed out our tickets at home, got dressed and headed out to Golden Gate Park where the de Young Museum is located. Luckily, the rain had stopped, so I slipped into this all cream combination- this ivory mesh skirt (which looks way more luxe than the $60 price tag) and a silk & lace cami.

The ‘Bouquet To Art” is where more than 125 local floral designers create floral art inspired by some of the pieces within the de Young. This is the 32nd year of the exhibition, but my first year checking it out. It is incredibly beautiful and inspiring. I love seeing the floral designer’s interpretations of each piece of art- some are more figurative while others are more abstract. My personal favorite was by Waterlily Pond Studio in which they recreated ‘Crusades’ by Helen Frankenthaler. (see first photo on the right of the orange painting/flowers).

I’ve talked about it before, but one of the easiest ways to pull together an instantly chic look is by creating a monochromatic palette. Pick any neutral color and choose pieces either in a variety of tones or exactly the same shade. My go-to is usually an all white or all cream look. It’s fresh for the spring season but looks really crisp in the winter, especially when everyone else is wearing dark colors.

We ended the afternoon downtown warming up with cocktails at Trou Normand, a spot I’ve been wanting to try out. We got lucky with 3pm being a bit of an awkward in-between time to eat, so it was only us and a couple of other customers. I’m not a huge cocktail drinker, I rather have a glass of wine or rosé, but the ‘Sleepyhead’ mixed drink was delicious. I highly recommend trying! It’s a beautiful space and makes me want to have more of a reason to go downtown mid-week.
