A few weeks back Thomas and I headed to Mérida, Mexico to shoot our June Gal Meets Glam Collection dresses. This colorful city in the Yucatan was first put on my radar when a reader, who lives in Mérida, suggested it to us when we were in Tulum last spring. When we were searching for a warm weather destination to shoot our summer dresses, it popped back up and worked out perfectly. Since most of our days were spent working and shooting, we didn’t end up leaving the city to explore the many nearby highlights, like Chichén Itzá, Las Coloradas (a pink lake), cenotes, historic haciendas and more. We quickly realized that we needed to plan a trip back!
I still have so many photos from our trip that I haven’t even had time to go through! Once I’m done sorting through them all, I’m going to compile a larger post with everything we did, where we ate, stayed and more. Sort of like this post I put together from our Tulum trip. We didn’t get to do quite as many activities as we usually do when traveling, but we did manage to fit in some downtime, which mostly involved eating lots of mexican food and drinking mezcal margaritas (my favorite!). One of the best meals from our trip was at Apoala. It was so good that we ended up going back on our last night, too!
We got a taste of summer weather in Mérida with the temperature consistently over 100, although more of a dry heat than our humid summers in Charleston. I brought a lot of breezy, gauzy (like this maxi dress) and linen pieces to keep cool, and ended up using scarves to pull my hair back and keep it controlled. You’ll see all four of these accessories repeat a lot over the next couple of months as we continue to enjoy the warm weather- these pink sunglasses, my favorite espadrilles, a floral scarf and my pink Cult Gaia bag.
