What To Wear For A Weekend Getaway

We spend a great deal of time traveling, but in reality, very little time actually on vacation. Most of our journeys are centered around work related to the blog or Gal Meets Glam Collection. Whether we’re heading to NYC for design meetings, going on location for photoshoots, or traveling with a brand for work. So when an opportunity arrives where we can spend a day or two enjoying some true ‘down time’ or new adventure with no work involved, we jump at it, even if it’s unplanned and spur-of-the-moment. Our recent travels to London included just that – a quick weekend detox with close friends that involved simple pleasures like strolling through town, sampling favorite foods, picnicking and even napping in the park, and enjoying homemade meals together. My vacation wardrobe is generally aligned with what we are scheduled to be doing and coordinated to make packing and dressing easier. For those rare but coveted times when we’re free to stray from structured plans, having easy, go-to pieces to throw on and enjoy are the best. Here’s what I include in my bag for a weekend getaway…

Scarves- I’ve been wearing my scarves non-stop lately, whether that’s in my hair, around my neck or on my bag. A silk scarf or a soft cashmere one are both timeless and seasonally appropriate year round, which makes it a great accessory to purchase since I know I’ll get a lot of use out of it. I brought a mix of scarves with me on our trip, including a few of my favorite silk ones like this one and this one, along with my cashmere Hermes scarf.

Skirts- I find that a midi or maxi skirt is a great piece to travel with because I can style it numerous ways throughout the weekend to get multiple looks out of it. I would take this simple white one and wear it with a summery top during the day with sandals and transition it into an evening look with some heels and a silk blouse.

Cropped Pants- These are my go-to for casual wear meant for long days in and out of cars, boats, planes or trains. Slacks pull a style together and, just like skirts, can be very versatile with just the switch of a blouse. They can be bold in a fun jungle or floral print for times when neutral just isn’t going to cut it!

Dresses- Without a doubt, my favorite item to fill my suitcase with. Dresses are, in my opinion, the perfect vacation style – one piece dressing, classic elegance, ease of wear, and cool comfort. One dress can be worn with flats or sandals by day and heeled sandals by night. I brought and wore the Claire dress in pink stripe, the Vanessa yellow linen shirtdress and Jennifer wrap dress in pink.
