Experiencing new things is a big part of our lives–thanks, in part, to the wonderful opportunity we have to travel so frequently for Gal Meets Glam, but also due to the innate sense of curiosity that Thomas and I share. We’re always eager to grab a table at a just-opened restaurant, wander down a new street, or venture to a place we’ve yet to explore. While I love that part of our lives and personalities, there’s also something so meaningful about routines and traditions. Now that we’re settling back into our house, I’ve been inspired to spend extra time this summer creating comfortable rhythms that make me feel at home and connected to what matters most to me, and then bringing some of those routines back on the road with us, too.

Especially since there are many weekends when we’re out of town, one routine I always cherish is our Saturday morning routine. We’ll often head to the gym, stop for coffee on the way home, and then spend the afternoon exploring our neighborhood. I’ll admit: I sometimes need to get out of the house in order to unplug for a little while–shutting my computer for a few hours is so refreshing and needed after a busy week. I’ve heard that one way to fall in love with where you live is to do as many of your errands as you can within a mile of your home, instead of venturing out further. While I don’t need any extra help loving Charleston, I do genuinely appreciate the way this little change unites us more deeply with the community around us. Staying within walking or biking distance also helps keep our Saturday outings relaxed and low-key.

When I’m leaving the house without much of a plan other than to enjoy my surroundings and company, I’ll put on an outfit that is comfortable, breathable, and easygoing, like this relaxed look I wore in Lake Tahoe. You can’t go wrong with a perfect-fitting tee (crisp white or classic stripes are my go-tos) or a breezy blouse, whether you pair them with casual denim shorts or a flowy midi skirt. Depending on the forecast for the day, I may also throw a lightweight pullover or cardigan over my shoulders, just in case. I especially love pieces that are simple, but include a unique, feminine detail, like a scalloped hem or ruffled neckline. I’ve also found a few pairs of linen pants I’m really loving lately including this white pair I wore on our flight to Italy and these cropped Vince pants
