Gal on a Budget: Finding Balance this Fall

From now through the end of the year, our calendar only grows more and more full. Typing that sentence alone makes me a little nervous–this has already been one of the busiest years of our lives between launching the Gal Meets Glam Collection, wrapping up renovations on our home, flying back and forth to New York multiple times a month to work with our design team, traveling for both work and pleasure, and continuing to pour our hearts into the blog. It’s safe to say we’ll always look back on 2018 in a special way, but with the end of the year creeping into sight, I’ve realized I’ve let some important things slide this year–namely, my fitness routine and regular rest. With so many important obligations on our plates, I’ve simply had to give myself grace in other areas in order to maintain my sanity. That said, knowing how good I feel overall when I’m my most healthy and strong, I think I’m ready to slowly add regular exercise back into my routine, whether that means making it to Orangetheory when I’m home, squeezing in a tennis game with Thomas, or doing a BBG workout in the hotel gym.

On the flip side of being more physically active, one of my goals through fall and the holidays is to be better about resting. I hope to balance long flights with long walks, takeout in the office with leisurely dinners at home, evenings spent working with evenings spent on our back patio, and time meeting with our business partners with time with our family members. I believe in, and truly love, working hard, but I know that intentional rest will only fuel my creativity, not distract from it.

Easy Blush Cardigan

Whether I was layering it over a white tee and jeans on the weekend, throwing it on after a yoga class, or cozying up in it at home, I’d wear this cardigan, in my year-round favorite color, again and again. The button-less front keeps this piece casual, while the blush shade adds a feminine touch to any athleisure ensemble.

Slip-On Sneakers

I forget how effortless my summer sandals are until I’m trying to decide which shoes to pair with relaxed fall outfits. Enter these suede slip-on sneakers (which remind me of double-the-price Vince styles. They look just as cute with a casual outfit as they do with workout clothes, so they’re perfect for running errands, heading to and from the gym, and making quick coffee runs.

Striped Joggers

My attitude on any given day is rooted in much more than the clothes I’m wearing, but I have noticed that the more put-together I look, the more put-together I feel. Cozy gray and white striped joggers like these are the closest thing I own to sweatpants, but unlike the latter, joggers are as flattering as they are comfortable.

The Best Hair Ties

My hair is thick, heavy, and often very long, so I’ve tried countless hair ties over the years. These, in the clear shade, are by far my favorite–they disappear into hair, don’t leave creases, stay put in ponytails and buns, and are much gentler than standard hair ties (read: no heavy-ponytail-induced headaches). Especially for my fellow long-haired girls, they’re a must-have.

More athleisure favorites for work and rest…

From cozy matching separates that call for a second cup of coffee and a few more minutes gathered around the breakfast table, to wear-anywhere pullovers in my favorite colors, these items would be just right for days that include work, rest, and everything in between.
