Babymoon in Mallorca, Part 1

Last week we got back from our babymoon in Mallorca, Spain. It was truly a wonderful week, full of delicious seafood, dips in the sea, poolside reading and lots of relaxation before baby comes. Last summer, we visited the Andalusian region of Spain and had such a great time that we knew we wanted to see even more of the country and have had Mallorca on our list of places to visit for a while. The babymoon was a welcome vacation and the longest time we’ve disconnected in years. We started searching for places to stay in Spain this past January and found two incredible hotels in Mallorca and ended up deciding to split the trip between them. We chose to stay at Cap Rocat for the first half and La Residencia for the remainder, and I love how each one was uniquely different.

We had so many wonderful moments that I’m very thankful for. I know that not everyone takes a babymoon but I couldn’t recommend it enough. It truly doesn’t matter how long the trip is or how far away you go, it’s so nice to take some time as just the two of you before one of life’s biggest changes. After finding out I was pregnant in December, it seems like we’ve been in a mad dash to get everything ready before the baby arrives. All engines have been firing, working, learning, growing and planning. So it was a treat just to take time for ourselves and slow down.

Today’s post is a roundup of our time at Cap Rocat, an old military fortress that has been expertly transitioned into a luxury hotel. Our room sat on a cliff overlooking the ocean and was built into a cave, providing incredible serene views of the Sea. At times it felt like we were the only people there (even though the hotel was full). We made every possible usage of our terrace, eating each of our breakfasts out there along with a few lunches, lounging next to our pool and taking naps and reading on our daybed built into the cliff. The views were absolutely breathtaking, with ombre water that changed from dark cobalt blue to bright turquoise. The property also has a private beach and different spots where you can walk down or jump into the sea, which became our daily activity. Usually when we travel we rarely decide to stay put for too long, instead preferring to explore as much as possible. But for this trip, we planned nothing other than booking the hotels and at Cap Rocat, we never even left the property. And I have to say, it was a great decision!

Aside from the remarkable scenery, the food was a highlight of the stay. In addition to being able to dine pretty much anywhere on the property, Cap Rocat has two restaurants, the more casual Sea Club (the picturesque blue and white restaurant below) and La Fortaleza an intimate fine dining experience. Our favorite meal of the entire trip was a salt baked Sea Bass with Vegetable Paella at the Sea Club. We had some rainy moments during our stay, which gave us an excuse to go check out the heated indoor pool at the spa one morning, followed by some tea in the courtyard. Just thinking about all of these special moments makes me already want to go back!
