I realized a few years ago that being (literally) uncomfortable in my shoes sometimes distracted me from putting my best self forward at work or an event, which simply wasn’t worth it. I’m sure anyone who has spent an evening more preoccupied with looking for a place to sit and rest their feet than mingling and chatting can relate! Thankfully, shoes no longer need to have a five-inch heel in order to be special. Some of the most beautiful shoes in my closet are flat options, and since they’re so comfortable, they’re also some of my most-worn pairs. I’m a big believer in wearing your most treasured items of clothing regularly, and gorgeous flat shoes make it easy to do just that.
In the summertime, you’ll almost always find me in a pair of sandals or slides. There is rarely an occasion when I’m not drawn to some of my favorite pairs, from my raffia Carrie Forbes sandals (seen here) to my gingham K. Jacques slides (seen here). When I was hunting for a similar version of my beloved, but unfortunately sold out, St. Agni sandals to share in my Daily Looks from Spain, the most lookalike pair I stumbled upon was a $23 pair of slides from Target. That find inspired today’s Gal on a Budget post, featuring some of my favorite sandals and slides for this summer, all under $110.
I like to keep a handful of sandals and slides in my rotation every summer so that I always have a comfortable, but polished, shoe option. I suggest finding at least one neutral pair you love (like these or these) that can pair with anything in your closet, as well as a pair to add a pop of color or pattern (like these or these) to any look. For an ultra-wearable version of heels, my favorites are low block heels with a feminine shape (like this Madewell pair). With these three staples on hand, you’ll never be without the perfect pair of shoes this summer.
