An Easy Summer Dress

We’re officially one month away from our little lady’s due date! Over the weekend, we headed to the beautiful Highlands of North Carolina for one last weekend getaway, plus a maternity shoot with our friend Ryan Ray (he also captured our pregnancy announcement photos earlier this year). We welcomed the break from Charleston’s heat and humidity and loved soaking up the breathtaking scenic views. I filled my weekender bag with a handful of our new July pieces that work beautifully with a bump, including one of my favorites: the floral Anya dress.

The high waist makes this style so comfortable and easy to wear, as well as extra flattering as a maternity piece. The fabric doesn’t have much stretch to it, so I opted to size up, which has been my strategy for most non-maternity pieces I’ve been wearing while pregnant. As long as a piece has a high waist or stretchy smocking (like our Shiloh and Corinne dresses), it has worked like a charm! The printed trim detail on the Anya dress’ bodice adds the illusion of extra structure, but other than a slight cinch at the waist, this style is loose-fitting and relaxed. Especially in the summertime, effortless looks are my go-to—I prefer not to fuss with too many accessories. Lately, I’ve been keeping my makeup minimal as well. This is exactly the type of dress I love slipping into since the delicate red floral pattern makes it special enough all on its own.

Our July Collection is full of laid-back summer styles and our feminine twist on a nautical red, white, and blue color palette—both of which are well-represented in the Anya. Especially since our August Collection next month will start looking ahead to fall, our goal with all of July’s pieces was to create the ideal outfits for every adventure you have planned for the rest of this summer! While I loved wearing this dress in the mountains, I can easily picture slipping into it for dinner after a long, leisurely day by the beach—the midi length is just right for a sunset walk in the sand. I’ll also be styling it with espadrilles or neutral flats for an easy, elegant workday look.
