Our Seven Biggest Moments Over Our Seven Years Of Marriage

Today we are celebrating our seven-year wedding anniversary. It’s crazy how time flies. Each year, we like to do a fun post so you can learn a little more about us. Last year’s post and 2017’s were especially fun. This year, we thought we’d reflect back and share what we think have been seven of the biggest moments during our seven years of marriage.

Baby and pregnancy – This list is in no particular order, but if it was, how could this not top it? We’ve always known that we wanted to be parents, but after getting married in our early twenties, we were in no rush to grow our family. Now we have our little girl on the way, due any day now. One thing we’ve learned is that you can never really be ready for children–in fact, many of these biggest moments, we weren’t fully ready for. Sometimes, you just have to do your best to prepare and know that you’ll figure things out along the way.

Moving to Charleston – This was easily a top life moment. T & I are homebodies–we love to make our nest and had been wanting to settle down and buy our first house a few years prior to when we pulled the trigger in 2016. The problem was we hadn’t found a city we could see ourselves wanting to live in long-term until we visited Charleston for the first time in 2016.

Launching GMGC – The idea for GMG Collection had lived in both of our heads for years, so building and launching it together was one of the greatest moments of our lives. Starting and growing an entirely new business has been one of the most challenging and fulfilling things we’ve ever done, but we are so grateful for the opportunity to be able to passionately pursue what we love and believe in.

Both quitting our jobs to focus on GMG full-time – Thinking back on this moment, it was maybe one of the scariest ones. Thomas had a great job working at a tech startup in San Francisco, and to decide to walk away from that and put all of our eggs in one basket was a big bet on GMG. Again, it was one of those moments that was scary for just a brief bit, but we never regretted it. People always ask us how we can possibly work with our significant other. For us, it’s easy because we bring completely different skills to the table. We know that by letting each other excel at what we each do best, the business and our relationship will be in the best possible position to succeed.

Renovating our home – When we bought our home in Charleston in 2016, we knew we wanted to make it our own–to make the space a reflection of who we are and the life that we wanted to build inside of it. From start to finish, the whole process took about 18 months. Although it seemed like a long time at the beginning, the year and a half ended up going by so quickly. We lived in the house for about six months before beginning construction, and that experience was so valuable when determining what we wanted to keep, change, or emphasize. We couldn’t have done it without the amazing team we worked with. We’re excited to share it with you all in the September issue of Southern Living, which will be out soon!

Wedding day – Thinking back on our wedding day, it just feels like a blur now. For us, we felt a close connection from the moment we met. We never questioned whether we’d get married or not, so becoming husband and wife was not that big of a shock. To us, marriage was that final seal that bonded us together forever.

Moving to SF after college – This was an exciting time for us. We knew we wanted to be in San Francisco for work after school, and luckily, we both ended up getting jobs out there to allow us to do so. The first six months were hard, as Thomas was technically still in grad school and only came into the city on weekends to see me. Once he graduated and joined me in SF full-time, we felt like our new journey as husband and wife had finally begun. We’ll always look back at our time there with so much love for the wonderful opportunities that presented themselves to allow us to get to where we are.
