Have you guys seen the new Emma film? We watched it a few weekends ago and it is absolutely beautiful. It was a breathe of fresh air and truly a visual delight right now. If you’ve read or seen Emma before, then you’re familiar with the storyline and I think you’ll love this new version, like I did. But to me, the real show stoppers were the set (peek at it here) and costume design. I kept pausing just so I could take in all of the details, especially the abundance of color. The film is set in England in the early 19th century and based on what I’ve read, the costume designer was very keen on keeping it authentic to the time period. But yet, a lot of it felt very relevant and modern to fashion now. It inspired me to roundup a few of my favorite pieces that feel connected to the film in some way, whether it be the silhouette, print, color palette or accessories.

Floral Jacquard Box Bag

There was no shortage of mini bags in this charming film. Whether Emma was strolling to town or dinner, a cloth mini bag was always in tow. This box bag from Marc Cross x Brock Collection adds a romantic, timeless style and is the perfect accessory to pair with solid and patterned pieces alike.

Ruffle Cotton Dress

The delicate floral pattern, ruffled neckline, and puff sleeves on this cotton dress from Batsheva is similar to a style Emma might wear. It pairs perfectly with pink suede flats for the day, or feathered mules and a satin minibag for an elegant Emma-inspired evening look.

Jacquard Bow Mules

I can’t think of a shoe more perfectly Emma-inspired than these floral jacquard bow mules from Brock Collection. The fabric reminds me of some of the furniture from the film, while the bow detail perfectly fits the time period. For an updated look, I would pair these with white wide leg jeans and a statement top or a minidress.
