We’ve called San Francisco home for almost 5 years and now that we are moving, the feelings of nostalgia are settling in. I thought I’d put together a little list of the things that we are going to miss most about living in San Francisco.

  1. Proximity to family and friends- This is definitely a big one. Thomas and I grew up only an hour and a half from San Francisco so we have a lot of family and friends that we are going to be leaving behind. We’ve also made some close friends here that we will miss greatly!
  2. Food options- San Francisco is one of the best food cities in the world, with new places opening weekly. With a non-stop list of places to try we’ve had a blast getting to know San Francisco through the food scene. More specifically, SF is one of the most health conscious cities in the world and we’ve loved our share of healthy spots to eat. Here’s a list of our favorite healthy spots and here are our favorite coffee shops.
  3. Walking- There’s only a handful of cities that we’ve visited that have the same walking culture that San Francisco has. You can thank the lack of parking, hills and relative difficulty in moving around the city for creating neighborhoods meant for walking. We live in the Marina and rarely need to venture out of the neighborhood for food, groceries or to go workout.
  4. Gym- Speaking of working out. Thomas and I love to workout and we are lucky that we have an Equinox, Soulcycle, Barry’s Bootcamp, a yoga studio and a dozen other specialty fitness providers within walking distance. Additionally we can jog or cycle to the Golden Gate Bridge with ease. The proximity to so many great workouts definitely motivated us to be as active as our schedule allows.
  5. Places to Explore- San Francisco alone has dozens and dozens of neighborhoods to check out; The Mission, Noe Valley, Pacific Heights, Bernal Heights, Hayes Valley, SOMA and more! Within San Francisco, there are still places we haven’t been to. But there are also so many amazing places just a short distance from San Francisco to explore. Within an hour and a half drive you have Sonoma and Napa, Marin Headlands, Point Reyes and Half Moon Bay. Within about three hours drive you can reach Lake Tahoe, Mendocino, Yosemite, Carmel and Big Sur. We will definitely miss having all of these incredible spots at our finger tips.
