Navy, black, nude or white, a blazer is as traditional as it gets, no matter the cut – fitted, boxy, cropped, or long. We forget that this classic women’s wear staple originated from a man’s closet before it made it’s way into the woman’s working wardrobe. Today, the classic blazer is anything but masculine and is no longer worn just for work. Â
As with most classic pieces that seem to elude trends, I’m drawn to blazers in all different patterns, styles and fabrics. I often prefer them to a cardigan because of the clean, crisp look. I can add a blazer to just about any outfit – jeans, a tee, a dress, sweater and slacks, or a casual skirt or shorts and a blouse, and the look immediately transforms into a sleek, chic, sporty style. So next time you’re selecting an outfit for work or just to go shopping in, skip the suit and the cardigan and slip on a blazer instead.
