One of our favorite things about living in San Francisco is how many great Farmer’s Markets there are, especially on the weekends. We frequently make our way to one of our favorite markets on the weekends to stock up on produce, flowers and snacks. It’s taken a while to develop the right strategy but we’ve found that if we go to the market with a shopping list or ideas for a few things we want to cook, we won’t wind up at home with a bunch of random things that caught our interest while we shopped hungry.

Ferry Building Farmer’s Market on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday (Inside Open 7 Days A Week)

Everyone knows about this Farmer’s Market. On Saturday, it wraps all around the entire Ferry Building and thousands of people show up. You can get produce, fresh fish and meat, full meals, flowers and snacks. If you’ve never been, it’s a fun experience that we recommend to everyone asking us for recommendations. If you go, you should get there earlier rather than later as it can get crowded, especially during summer days. Our favorite vendors are the flower stand on the South East corner, Acme Bakery inside, Stonehouse Olive Oils inside, Cowgirl Creamery and Frog Hollow (also has a stand outside), both inside. Also, a tip for those going to Blue Bottle Coffee, they recently opened up a space outside that’s not as crowded.

Fort Mason Farmer’s Market on Sunday

Since Fort Mason is in our neighborhood, this is the Farmer’s Market that we frequent the most. It’s not huge but you can find all types of goodies. On Sunday’s we like to go stock up on veggies to fill our refrigerator but we always end up stopping at our other favorite vendors. We love the amazing organic flower stand right when you walk in (he has the best hydrangeas around), the hummus stand (try the garlic hummus) and The Midwife and The Baker (we recently bought their chocolate sourdough bread with chocolate chips in it).

Off the Grid Presidio Sunday’s During Spring and Summer (Opening back up on April 3rd)

Off the Grid is not exactly a Farmer’s Market but it is one of our favorite experiences in the city. It’s a gathering of food trucks mostly and other food vendors. Off the Grids are happening all over the city but on Sunday they have what we think is their best one. On a warm Spring or Summer Sunday there might not be anything better to do in San Francisco than setting out a picnic blanket with friends, bringing a bottle of wine or craft beer and sampling a smorgasbord of food from the dozens of food trucks.

Divisadero Farmer’s Market

On the occasion that we find ourselves driving down Divisadero on a Sunday we will make a stop at this Farmer’s Market. It’s a pretty small Farmer’s Market but we like it because it’s a lot less crowded but they still have a wonderful selection.
