Putting outfits together and styling new pieces is one of my favorite things to do (a good thing, considering my job!), but every season, it seems that a select few items quickly become my wardrobe MVPs. They’re the items I want to try with all different outfit combinations, that I reach for no matter the occasion or event, and that always make me feel comfortable, confident, and true to myself and my personal style. The first day of fall is days away, and especially as I was packing for our recent trips to London and New York, I could already identify a few things I know I’ll be wearing often over the coming months.

As much as I love the deep, rich colors of fall, creamy neutrals and pastels will always be my sweet spot. That said, my go-to palette naturally evolves with the season, and right now, creams, cocoa, camel, and a dark shade of blush are inspiring me the most. I happily combined all of those shades in this outfit, starting with a staple for any fall closet: a crewneck cashmere sweater in camel (this one is another great option for under $100 and I love this one). I’d pair this classic sweater with anything from dark denim to a tweed skirt, but here, I’m wearing it with a pair of suede pants

I’ve realized I can’t resist plaid in the fall, especially when it comes in the form of a beautiful coat. The double-breasted closure and boxy shape make this oversized blazer more menswear-inspired than what I usually gravitate toward, but I was excited to put a feminine spin on it. Nordstrom’s free shipping and returns often convince me to pull the trigger when I’m not totally sure about something, because I know I can send it back if it doesn’t work for my wardrobe. The blazer ended up a clear winner though, and I know I’ll wear it again and again as the weather cools down, switching out my silk scarf for a heavier option. Nordstrom also has a few other similar styles under $150 including this one, this one and this one
